GolS
GolS,a protein originating from Salmonella typhimurium, is a transcriptional activator that is activated by Gold (III) ions. Once activated, the GolS will bind to the promoter, pGolTS, and upregulate translation.
This part was designed specifically for E. coli and taken from the 2013 York iGEM group: https://parts.igem.org/Part:BBa_K1127008
While the GolS gene was originally drawn from York iGEM 2013, we made a modification to the start codon. We changed the start codon to -AUG- to increase the efficiency of translation in E. coli. This is because E. coli more frequently uses AUG to initiate translation.
